In 1985 two immigrants chased the American dream. With minimal English skills but a strong work ethic, good friends Veneti Stamateas and Panayiotis Lazarakis began a house painting endeavor by knocking door to door throughout Massachusetts’ Merrimack Valley and Cape Ann.
With determination, honesty, hard work and a customer-is-always-right attitude, the painters soon garnered a base of residential clients throughout the region. These homeowners in turn eagerly recommended the two men to their friends and family. Business quickly grew and in no time the two enterprising painters sought a company name.
A company name that would first, represent their skills. Then, pay homage to their homeland. And most importantly, a name that would be listed at the top of the, then ever important, alphabetized, yellow pages…

Socrates Stamateas, President & Partner
President of Alpha Painting since 1998, Socrates is responsible for operations management, hands-on project supervision and client communications. Socrates “grew up” in the residential house painting craft. He takes great pride in the company’s work and continues to maintain the original work ethics that Alpha Painting was founded on – honesty, communication, responsiveness to customer needs, and quality workmanship.
Raised in Haverhill, Socrates graduated from the University of Massachusetts earning a degree in Finance and later went on to earn his M.B.A. from Southern New Hampshire College.
Today, Socrates lives in Merrimac with his wife and two children. Aside from spending time with family and friends, Socrates is an avid basketball and soccer fan and enjoys following his favorite teams.
Veneti Stamateas, Partner
Veneti is Partner at Alpha Painting. He co-founded the company in 1987 and currently takes on an advisor role, visiting job sites often and teaching newer employees the skills of the trade.
Today, Veneti lives in Haverhill with his wife. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and summers in Greece.
Helen Stamateas, Marketing Management & Administration
Helen is the Marketing and Administration Manager. In this role she manages and facilitates all branding and marketing strategy, including the web site, social media, and email/direct mail campaigns. She also manages day-to-day administration of the company.
Raised in Haverhill, Helen graduated from Merrimack College earning a degree in International Business and later went on to earn her M.B.A focused in Marketing from Bentley University. Prior to working with Alpha, Helen worked in marketing in the technology field as well as retail management in the local banking industry.
Outside of work, Helen is busy managing her family. She enjoys cooking, dinners out with friends, and traveling to sunny destinations.
Paul Carvalho, Lead Project Painter
Paul is the Lead Project Painter for Alpha Painting. In this role since 2008, Paul manages on-site painting and carpentry repair operations making sure that all work done meets project specifications.
Florenc Kendela, Lead Project Painter
In this role since 1999, Florenc is responsible for job site safety and on-site painting craftsmanship. An expert in clapboard and wood restoration, Florenc manages Alpha’s restoration procedures as well.
Charlie the Dog, Head of Security
Charlie is Head of Security at Alpha Painting headquarters. An expert in barking and documentation chewing, Charlie joined Alpha Painting in 2015.
Charlie currently lives in Merrimac with his family. In his spare time Charlie enjoys napping, running around in circles and charming all who meet him.
